Zhaoqi Liu is a Principal Investigator in CAS Key Laboratory of Genomic and Precision Medicine in Beijing Institute of Genomics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He received his PhD degree in applied mathematics from Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and won Special award of President Scholarship for Postgraduate Students of the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2014. Between 2015 and 2018, he was a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Columbia University. From 2018, he was promoted to an Associate Research Scientist. He will start the Zhaoqi Laboratory @BIG in February 2021, focusing on the application of data science technology in cancer genomics and pharmacogenomics.
His research areas include machine learning, RNA splicing, and computational genomics. In the past five years, he has made substantial contributions to a) Pharmacogenomics analysis using patient-derived cells (Nature Genetics 2018); b) the reconstruction and elucidation of RNA non-coding transcriptomes (Gut 2019); c) the identification of functional basis for enrichment of mutations in the core RNA splicing factor SF3B1 in cancer (Cancer Discovery 2020 and PNAS 2020); d) Genomic characterization of plasmablastic lymphoma (Blood Cancer Discovery 2020).
